Communist Utopia

The dark and dull colors convey communism and conformity. There is no individuality in those colors. He does not like it because if he did he would not use the depressing colors he did in the painting. The artist named the painting "Communist Utopia" because it is the best communism can be.

Loss of Innocence

You can lose it through experiences, specifically adult experiences.

Don't You Want Me

The man thinks that the girl is in love with him.

The girl thinks that he is a creep because he will not leaver her alone.

These two very interpretations can occur because there are two different maybe even opposite perspectives.

Young Life

Claims:
1. The boy is a loner.
2. The man killed the deer.
3. The boy is a fighter.

Facts:
1. He is away from the adults.
2. He is holding a gun.
3. He is holding a stick in a having-the-ability-to-swing-at-any-moment way.

"Blackbird"

The "Blackbird" in this song represents or symbolizes someone being born into a bad situation. The song then tells the story of how this blackbird got out of the bad situation. This is demonstrated by the use of symbols such as "broken wings" and "sunken eyes." These things represent bad situations. "Learn to fly" as well as "learn to see" symbolize making the best out of those porous situations.  The single effect of this song is to inspire people to better their lives not matter how bleak they seem.

"Shame"

The tone of this song is reflective and remorseful. The narrator uses the word "now" to display the fact that he is looking back on his life and how he could have done it differently. The narrator also uses the phrase "untender and untrue." This demonstrates his regret and remorse that he feels toward a certain moment in his past.

"Sign Language"

The purpose in this short film is to make people realize that even the people that most would not give the time of day have lives and feelings just like us. This shown in the director's camera shot choice when there are close up shots of the main character. This displays emotions and feelings giving an emotional connection between the audience and the main character.

"Love Language"

The purpose of this short film is to raise awareness/money for those that are deaf. Also, it is shown that deaf people are not that much different than everybody else. This is displayed with the director's choice to put headphones in the deaf girl's ears so that it seems as if she is just a normal girl who cannot hear due to the music.

"Semeadores"

S: Two men working in a field.

N: Narrator possibly could have done work similar to work in picture as it is portrayed as hard work.

A: To be seen by wealthy people who would be able to go to an art exhibit.

P: To inform people on the hard lives of those underneath them in society. This is shown by the workers seemingly blended into the ground as if they are a part of it. Also, the workers' drab clothing suggests that they are extremely poor.

"Good Old Desk"

S: The subject is a  man's desk.

N: Narrator is most likely thinking about reliability.

A: Audience could be fans of this genre of music, or it could be fans of reliability.

P: The purpose is to inform people on the reliability of God and to tell people that he will always be there.

This claim is supported by the words of the song like, "We never say a word, but it's perfectly alright with me," "To keep my hopes alive," and, "It's the one friend I've got, a giant of all times."

Problem activity

     The two-party political system we have here in the United States is a problem. In areas such as the House of Representatives and Senate there is a deadlock between Democrats and Republicans. This deadlock is similar to when two bulls fight and get their horns caught. It is similar to this because the Democrats and Republicans have their "horns" interlocked, and no one wants to back out and be reasonable. Also, nobody wants to step between these two forces as it seems too dangerous to do.

Culture

Definition- Culture is how we do certain things. It is what makes us different from others. It is what makes us unique.

What it is- Culture can be a multitude of things. It can be what you celebrate. It can be how you celebrate. It can also be what you eat, wear, or dance.
Intrinsic or Extrinsic- Culture is extrinsic because most people are the way they are because of their surroundings. This includes, family, school, and friends. If a child from a faraway land was adopted as a baby, and he or she was brought from that place to America. That child would not have the same culture as where the child was born from. The child would have the culture of its parents, school, and friends, and it would not have the culture of where that child was from.

"The Runaway" Facts and Claims

Facts:

1. The boy's favorite color is yellow.

The Pearl Second 50 Pages

         The second part of this book confused me at times. First, how did the rest of the town know that Coyotito was dead if Kino and Juana were completely silent and sullen? I do not believe that the people of the town could infer that he was dead just be cause they were not holding him. Also, the bag he was in could held many objects, so they could not assume his body was in there. Riches Kino and Juana had bought with the money they made from the pearl could have been in the bag. My other question about this part of the book is this: why did no one jump in after the pearl. I know people saw the trouble that Kino and Juana endured, but someone has to be stupid enough to think that that will not happen to him or her.

The Pearl First 50 Pages

There are a few things that really caught my eye in these 1^st 50 pages. One was when Kino talked about what he will do with the very large pearl. When he reveals what he wants to buy it surprised me. From the start of the book to that point Kino seems very down to earth. He prays as well as just acts not like someone who would all of those things. Someone like that would be the doctor. The doctor would want those things because he is rich, snotty, and overall pretentious. Kino is not this way at all, and that is why I was surprised when Kino said he wanted all of those things. I thought Kino would take the high road with the pearl. This would be something like saving the money because though his family is poor, they are still living with what they have. My other question of concern is about when the intruder comes into the hut. The intruder was digging in the corner, so if one can assume that the doctor was the intruder how would he know to look in the corner because of one small glance Kino made earlier?

Pygmalion Second 50 pages

One thing that bothers me in the 2^nd half of the book is the section about Alfred obtaining the money. I question how this truly helps the story in any facet. It puzzled me and I continued to think about even when I was reading the rest of the story. I kept pondering possible back stories that would make this make sense, but I couldn’t find one. Another part of the story that bugged me was when Eliza ran away. I cannot understand her reasoning. The book says that Higgins and Pickering grew disinterested with their “experiment,” and that this hurt Eliza’s feelings. I find this unbelievable because she should be extremely thankful because they transformed her from a vile young lady into a formidable one. Also, I do not understand how Higgins and Pickering becoming disinterested would hurt her feelings bad so much that she would decide to run away. Even if this did hurt feelings that badly wouldn’t the turning her into a nice young lady make up for that?

Pygmalion First 50 Pages

         The first fifty pages of Pygmalion went by very quickly for me. I hardly took any time for in depth thought. However, the one part that did make me think was in Act III. I was surprised that people thought so highly of Liza because of her ability to small talk. My understanding from reading other pieces of work is that people back in that time period were much more mannered than people today, and being able to small talk was a part of being well-mannered. I also do not remember what her age is, but I believe it is said that she is an independent woman which would make her at least fourteen. Even in today’s time a fourteen year-old girl without manners and the ability to make small talk is much more odd than a girl with those things. Another part of the story I’d like to discuss is Freddy becoming infatuated with Liza because of her properness. I’ve read many books that are from this time period, but I have never read about a boy being “infatuated” with a girl because of her manners. In the books I’ve read the boy usually likes the girl for more adult reasons.
