Pygmalion Second 50 pages
One thing that bothers me in the 2nd half
of the book is the section about Alfred obtaining the money. I question how
this truly helps the story in any facet. It puzzled me and I continued to think
about even when I was reading the rest of the story. I kept pondering possible
back stories that would make this make sense, but I couldn’t find one. Another
part of the story that bugged me was when Eliza ran away. I cannot understand
her reasoning. The book says that Higgins and Pickering grew disinterested with
their “experiment,” and that this hurt Eliza’s feelings. I find this
unbelievable because she should be extremely thankful because they transformed
her from a vile young lady into a formidable one. Also, I do not understand how
Higgins and Pickering becoming disinterested would hurt her feelings bad so
much that she would decide to run away. Even if this did hurt feelings that
badly wouldn’t the turning her into a nice young lady make up for that?
